Our second release of H Pinot Noir is 230 cases
from two sites in the northwestern part of Sonoma
Coast AVA on ridge tops that sit above the thick
coastal fog. The combination of cool temperatures,
sufficient rain, no frost, abundant sunshine and
great drainage naturally limits the yield and shows
the sexy nuances of the grape. The ideally consistent
growing conditions of the 2007 vintage produced
a wine of memorable proportions, balancing fruit,
alcohol, acidity and tannin.
The wine is dark and brooding with highly expressive
black fruit aromas, five spice powder, spicy roasted
duck skin and citrus peel. The wine is complete
front to back with sweet fruit on the tip of the
tongue, a full rich round mid-pallet with the balance
of fruit, acidity and oak with a savory finish that
lingers and lingers.
Each vineyard was hand-harvested twice from selected
rows; picking only the ripe fruit, sorted in the
vineyard and again in the winery, cold soaked for
three days and allowed to proceed with a native
yeast fermentation. The wine was aged for 18 months
in 100% French oak, with 20% being new, racked only
once and settled in a tank for an additional month.
The wine was not fined or filtered to preserve all
the character possible, thus there is quite a bit
of sediment, so please stand the bottle for a few
hours before serving.
